Varanasi one of the oldest living cities in the world, 5 popular temples to visit

Varanasi is home to numerous sacred sites and ghats, which are staircases that descend to bodies of water and have a long history. One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world is Varanasi, also known as Banaras or Kashi. The Varanasi temples come to mind while discussing culture, tradition, and history, especially for Hindus. Here are some of Varanasi’s well-known temples that merit a visit:

Vishalakshi Temple 

One of Varanasi’s most renowned and significant temples is Vishalakshi Temple. Once Goddess Sati died in the flames, Lord Shiva carried her body and travelled the universe with her. Lord Vishnu had sliced her body into 51 pieces, which fell to Earth to form holy places (Shakti Peeth) where all people might pay respect to the Goddess Sati.

Kanaka Durga Mandir

One of the most important religious destinations to visit in Varanasi is the Kanaka Durga Temple. The shrine is the subject of an intriguing mythology. With its multi-tiered spires, the temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, is a stunning example of the Nagara architectural style, which is popular in North India.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple

On the western bank of Varanasi’s sacred Ganga River, next to the well-known Dashashwamedh Ghat, is where you’ll find the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. This temple is one of the world’s 12 Jyotirlingas. The Lord Shiva, also known as Vishwanatha, or “the ruler of the cosmos,” is the subject of this temple.

Kaal Bhairav Mandir 

Kaal Bhairav is regard as Lord Shiva in his most terrible guise. One of the oldest temples in the city, this Shiva temple was constructed in the 17th century. The city is thought to be protected by this temple.

Annapurna Devi Mandir 

Goddess Annapurna, a manifestation of Goddess Parvati, is the object of veneration at this place of worship. In the temple is a golden statue of Maa Annapurna, who is said to protect the entire city from food shortages. It is also known as Bhavani Devi.
