James Cameron convince Leonardo DiCaprio to make him do Jack Dawson’s character in Titanic.

James Cameron revealed how he got Leonardo DiCaprio to play Jack in Titanic so many years ago. When the buzz around the awards has died down, it’s time to sift through the news snippets that spilled out of interviews at the award ceremony’s sidelines.

Cameron revealed in an exclusive interview with People magazine that he had to “twist DiCaprio’s arm” to get him to agree to play Jack in Titanic. DiCaprio turned down the role because he thought it was too mundane.

Cameron revealed that DiCaprio only agreed to do the part because he was able to convince the young actor that the role was a “difficult challenge”.

In retrospect, DiCaprio was glad he took the role because it catapulted him to superstardom. Cameron stated that since then, the actor has “made a lot of authentic choices going forward.” And DiCaprio’s decisions paid off.

Moving on, James Cameron can be heard explaining how he had to fight for him and convince him to take the role.

He even said he couldn’t imagine Titanic without Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. “I think about casting Leonardo and Kate in Titanic,” he said. The studio didn’t want Leo, so I had to fight for him. Kate liked him a lot, but Leonardo decided not to make the movie. So I had to persuade him to do it. If that had really frayed apart in any of those locations, you’d think it would have been someone else and not that film.

Titanic is now in its 25th year, and the film’s re-release is making the rounds in the news and on the internet. In our subconscious minds, we all anticipate Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s on-screen chemistry! Without them, the film would not be the same. What are your thoughts on the matter?
