Pavel Antov, a wealthy Russian legislator and outspoken critic of President Vladimir Putin’s. Discovered dead after mysteriously falling from a hotel in India’s eastern Odisha state.
The multi-millionaire was on vacation in Rayagada, where he was celebrating his 66th birthday.
Despite reports in local media that he jumped from the roof, Russia’s consul general Alexei Idamkin told TASS that he “fell” from a window. We are closely following the investigation and receiving all information from the Odisha police, the envoy said.
It comes two days after the death of his party colleague, Vladimir Budanov, 61, who died of a heart attack on Thursday. Antov was a vocal opponent of Putin’s war on Ukraine. He called the war and air strikes on Kyiv “Russian terror” in a blog post in June.
Antov eventually had to retract his statement due to intense pressure. He reportedly issued a “grovelling apology” to Western media.
The multi-millionaire died after falling from the third floor of his hotel in the Rayagada district of the state on Saturday. He died just two days after his fellow traveller, Vladimir Budanov, also died at the same hotel.
Antov was found lying in a pool of blood outside the hotel on Saturday, while his friend Budanov was found lying unconscious in his room with a few empty wine bottles around him.
