When Helen Khan married veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, who was already wed to his first wife Salma Khan, it created a difficult situation for the Khan family (Sushila Charak). Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, and Salman Khan were the three sons that Salim and Salma had as well. Helen recalled the event and observed that Salma had to go through a lot, adding that she had never desired to be cut off from her family.

“He (Salim) assigned me a part (in a film). We grew close, and your mother was lovely. It must have been difficult for her at the time; she must have experienced a lot. I believe that all of you are close to me by chance, and I want to thank you all “Helen informed Arbaaz.
Salim had assisted Helen in landing a number of film projects during the 1950s and 1960s. They quickly grew close and fell in love with one another. Helen was 42 years old and Salim was 45. In 1980, the two were married. Salim and Salma had been dating for a few years before getting married in 1954. Alvira Khan and Arpita Khan, their daughters, are also born to them.
Helen discussed her dance routines in the same episode. “I was extremely fortunate to be able to dance (in films) until I was 42 years old. When it comes to the film industry, people used to believe that “yeh achi baat nahi hai.” The heroines essentially took control, beginning to wear attire that no heroine would wear in those days. It was my destiny, – this much Helen and no further.”
