FIFA president Infantino praises India for hosting the U-17 women’s world cup

India hosted the FIFA U-17 women’s world cup for the first time in history. The football world cup was held in either of the three venues – Navi Mumbai, Bhubaneshwar, and Goa from October 11 to October 30, 2022.

Gianni Infantino, the president of the International Federation of Association Football, congratulated India on the excellent hosting of the U-17 women’s world cup. Infantino met with various representatives from state football associations along with the All India Football Federations’ president Mr. Kalyan Chaubey, VP Mr. NA Haris, and other executive members.

India received several praises from the football giant during the event. Infantino said, ‘India served as a tactful yet polite host for the U-17 women’s world cup. High hopes for India in the future of football

Gianni Infantino has plans to return to India next year to spruce up the football’s persona in the country. He sees a lot of potential in the Indian football team and is willing to contribute to enhancing the country’s gaming strategy.

He said, ‘It’s essential for India to build strong roots from the foundational level. From promoting professional women’s football competitions to strengthening the Indian football leagues, there’s so much potential in India.’

Infantino can foresee the importance of Indian football’s growth as it is significant to globalize football. He marks India as a priority country for the game’s growth along with China and USA.

Spain won the FIFA U-17 women’s world cup title

The finals held everyone’s breath till the 82nd minute when Ana Guzman from Colombia scored an unfortunate own goal, offering the championship title to their competitor – Spain. The winners made it to the finals after beating Germany in the semifinals by 1-0 while Colombia won over Nigeria with a score of 6-5.

Later, Spain won over Colombia with a score of 1-0 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This was Spain’s second victory in the U-17 women’s world cup, as earlier the country clinched the title in 2018. According to Olympics.com, Spain also tied with North Korea by winning the ‘most successful team’ award.
