Assam Bihu dance enters Guinness Book of World Records, PM Modi joins event

Assam on Thursday entered the Guinness World Record with 11,304 dancers and drummers performing ‘Bihu’ dance and playing ‘dhol’ at one place. It is the largest Bihu dance and Bihu drum performance at one place.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday participated in the Bihu’s festival in Guwahati, Assam.

  • On the occasion of Rongali Bihu, the Assam government organised a mega event in which around 11,000 dancers performed.

  • It is the largest event in the Northeast in which more than 10,000 Bihu’s dancers participated. This program was also recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. The artistes performed in the presence of a jury from the Guinness World Records headquarters in London . Achieved the global feat for ‘Bihu’ dance and ‘dhol’.

  • Apart from the Prime Minister, many dignitaries attended the event held at Sarusajai Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.

  • In this program, the shadow of dancers dancing is being seen. Videos of this have also surfaced in which thousands of dancers are seen wearing white and red traditional Assamese sarees worn on the occasion of Bihu.

  • Prime Minister Modi and other guests present in the program applauded the dancers by clapping.

  • Rongali or Bohag Bihu’s, a festival celebrated every year on April 13 or 14, marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year. It is celebrated on a large scale not only in Assam but also in other parts of the Northeast. The process of registering ‘Bihu’ in the Guinness World Records was started by the Assam government.
