Aditi Rao Hyadri opened up on working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Padmaavat

The actress who played Mehrunisa in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. Aditi Rao Hyadri, has nothing but respect for the director’s perspective and his understanding of women. 2018 saw the release of the film Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Aditi. The crowd praised Aditi’s elegant portrayal of Mehrunisa. The first trailer for Heeramandi, which is helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, featuring Aditi Rao Hyadri, was only released a few days ago!

Aditi Rao Hyadri responded,

“I honestly think a lot of it derives also from Sanjay sir and his vision and his knowledge of women”. In response to a question regarding the portrayal of women in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films and her role in Padmaavat. He doesn’t just turn this girl into a cardboard cut-out because of the layers he adds to her during that period and in the situation she is in.

She continued by saying that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s characters have a tonne of depth. There are numerous layers that he explores. There is a lot of subtext that he offers you when he speaks to you as an actor or when he talks about the character, even if it may not be talked of as dialogue. Heroines are mentioned, but they are also humans. Not just gorgeous cardboard cutouts, either.

There is so much passion and soul that goes into making that character; it’s not just about how they look. It truly has to do with directors who want to highlight that quality in the women they write for and the heroes they choose. The filmmaker deserves all the praise, in my opinion. Even Mehrunisa deserves praise for coming up with the character, developing her, and encouraging an actor to portray a very pure young lady, Aditi remarked.

Aditi Rao Hyadri on her Padmaavat role

Even though she didn’t get the most screen time in Padmaavat, Aditi Rao Hyadri claimed that the part was satisfying. “Among the four principles in Padmavat, mine really had the least amount of screen time, but it was incredibly rewarding for me to do. A heroine isn’t a heroine just because she appears on screen. A heroine is a heroine because of the life she leads. And the impression she has on those who observe her, she said.
