The Bigg Boss contestant Vikas Manaktala called another contestant Archana Gautam “Neech jati ke log,” which is an offence punishable under the SC/ST act. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued notice to the Mumbai Commissioner of Police.
Vikkas Manaktala, a contestant on Bigg Boss 16, has also come under fire from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for allegedly making a casteist remark towards fellow competitor Archana Gautam.
The comment was made during a reality TV episode that aired on Wednesday.
The commission stated in a notice sent to the Maharashtra government, state police, Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Endemol India Private Ltd, Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd, and Colors TV that suo-motu cognizance had been taken on information regarding Manaktala calling Gautam “neech jati ke log” that had been received through social media (a low caste person).
On a Congress ticket Gautam had run unsuccessfully for the Uttar Pradesh assembly.
The NCSC stated that “this is obviously an offence punishable under the SC/ST Act, and the Commission has decided to investigate the matter in accordance with the authority conferred upon it under Article 338 of the Constitution of India.”
The notice stated, “You are hereby instructed to submit action taken report to the undersigned within seven days of this notice.”
