Thyroid Disease: Causes, Symptoms, Risk Factors, Testing ..

We all want to be healthy, but due to many reasons like busy lifestyle, wrong eating habits, lack of physical activity, some or the other disease surrounds us and we get sick very soon. Apart from this, there are some diseases which are related to the glands of our body. One of these is thyroid. It is associated with the thyroid gland.

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland found in the neck, which is present in the front of the neck. The thyrod gland makes hormones, which increase the body’s metabolism (it works to convert the food we eat into energy) and controls the cells in the body. Thyroid hormone controls all the processes of the body. Disturbances in this gland lead to thyroid related diseases.

1. Selenium Deficiency

Selenium deficiency is the most common nutrient deficiency in people with Hashimoto’s (an autoimmune disorder that destroys thyroid cells). It is an important nutrient for  function and therefore taking a supplement may not only help avoid autoimmune disease triggers but also reduce high levels of thyroid antibodies.

In addition, selenium produces glutathione, which protects the thyroid gland from inflammation. Acts as an antioxidant and prevents hair fall.

2. Gluten consumption

The protein present in gluten is called gliadin, its molecular structure is like that of thyrod. So, when you eat food containing gluten, it enters the bloodstream and starts attacking the food instead of digesting it.

Apart from this, the consumption of gluten can cause inflammation and allergies in the body.

3. Breakfast rich in carbs

Try to include minimum carbohydrate items in the diet. These are high in calories, which can hinder the functioning of the thyroid. Also, consuming carbs slows down the metabolic rate.

Start your day with a good quality protein complex carbs and good fat like eggs, avocado and gluten free bread or almond milk with oats, blueberries and walnuts.

By doing these things thyroid starts increasing.
