Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should heed some of Oprah Winfrey’s wise counsel. According to People Magazine, Oprah recently spoke with Gayle King on CBS Mornings about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attending King Charles’ coronation on May 6. Gayle King is a longtime friend of the television legend.
“It’s been rumoured that Harry and Meghan have received an invitation to the coronation,” King questioned Oprah.

“Do you believe they ought to leave? you believe they shouldn’t leave? Do you have anything to say about it?
“I believe they should do what they feel is best for them and for their family,” Oprah retorted. That is my opinion. The question ultimately boils down to: What do you think is the best thing?
They have not enquired about my viewpoint. As reported by People Magazine, Oprah continued. A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly said, “I can confirm The Duke has lately received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” according to a People Magazine report from a week ago. We won’t immediately announce whether or not The Duke and Duchess will attend at this time.
As of yet, there has been no formal statement about it from Buckingham Palace. The Sussexes moved to Meghan’s home state of California in 2020, but their ties to the royal family have not improved since the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir in January. In an interview about the book with ITV’s Tom Bradby, Harry described the coronation as follows: “There are many things that could occur between now and then. But the door is always open, you know. They now have the initiative. There is a lot to talk about, and I sincerely hope they are willing to sit down and do so.” The 74-year-old King Charles reportedly wanted things to “cool down” in readiness for his coronation.
A royal household insider previously disclosed: “Charles would like his son to attend the coronation in order to see such a significant event. Harry should return to the family, in his opinion. If they don’t resolve it, it will always be associated with the King’s rule and the way he divided his family. He has had a reputation as a distant parent, and it would be dreadful for him for it to continue.”
