Sharad Kelkar talks about the impact that playing the Maratha emperor has had on him

Sharad Kelkar is one of the most recent performers to be well-known who has portrayed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s journey and legacy in the past. He not only received praise for his portrayal of the Maratha monarch in the Om Raut-directed film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020), but it also changed him.

Om gave Maharaj a distinctive presentation

Sharad Kelkar feel a little calmer now as a person. Om gave Maharaj a distinctive presentation. He (Raut) gave him a human face; often, people represent him in an aggressive manner. I became more composed in life as a result of the poise. The role also improved my patience. On account of today being Shivaji Jayanti, Kelkar said of Maharaj, “He always waited for the perfect time.

He continues by saying that he has received multiple offers for the role ever since his 2020 movie. “I’ve had support for playing Maharaj once more; often every month I get a call from someone. The only requirement I have is that Maharaj should be the focus of the tale rather than someone else. When Maharaj is the main character, I want to work on that project,” he decides.

According to Kelkar,

Playing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj not only altered his personality, but it also altered how the public saw him. “Before to Tanhaji, the majority of the work I was receiving was a result of my personality. They failed to recognise the actor I was. Mostly negative roles were presented to me. Playing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has altered people’s perceptions. The 46-year-old claims that they (the producers) treat me like an actress.

Also, he gives praise to his director, Raut: “When I used to walk on to the sets, there was an intriguing silence. The respect for Maharaj played a part. Om has done extensive research on the subject. Before every scene, he used to sit with me and transport me to that time. As regard to performance, we haven’t made any retakes. Om played a significant part in developing the role.
