T20 World Cup
“The T20 World Cup is coming up and there is a lot of talent among the youngsters, in this year’s IPL we have seen some great talent. It will not be a completely new team but there will be many new faces in it. He (Hardik Pandya) is already India’s captain in this format. If there is no fitness problem, he will continue to lead the team. Shastri feels that young players will get a chance in the upcoming tournament like the 2007 World Cup, at that time the Indian team full of youngsters under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the World Cup title.
“The Indian team management will again follow the path of the 2007 T20 World Cup, they will identify talent and they will have no dearth of options. There will also be an option for players who have captained IPL teams.
Shastri said the good thing with Hardik is that he does not have workload management issues. Hardik has not been playing Test matches since his lower back surgery. “As of now, there is no workload management issue with Hardik, between IPL and ODI World Cup, The Indian team will play only 4-5 (limited-overs matches). He is not a part of the Test team and he will get a chance to rest during the Test series.
