Oscars 2023: The Elephant Whisperes competed against Haulout

The Netflix documentary short film The Elephant Whisperers, which was directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga, won the Best Documentary Short Oscar in 2023.

With its first Indian victory at the 95th Academy Awards, the movie created history.

Monga declared on social media that “tonight is historic” because it marks the first time an Indian production has ever won an Oscar. Two women appear in India’s Glory. Monga commented about women telling stories and the first Indian women to receive an Oscar nomination in another post expressing her admiration for Gonsalves. “Here’s to your clearest vision and to women telling the world’s tales. Whatever happens today, take pride in how far we’ve gone and how successful we already are. This is the first nomination for a movie on an Indian indigenous group. Two Indian women are being nominated for the first time. Regardless of the verdict, The Elephant Whisperers will continue to win over millions of fans worldwide, outlive us, and remain in their hearts forever. About the Movie

The poignant Tamil documentary short film The Elephant Whisperers depicts the enduring relationship between people and animals via the tale of two orphaned elephants and their keepers. This 41-minute movie, co-produced by Achin Jain, tells the tale of a Tamil Nadu family who adopts two orphan baby elephants from the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
