Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra will begin in Puri, Odisha from June 20. Every year this yatra starts on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month. The world famous Jagannath Bhagwan Yatra will start from Puri temple. Along with Jagannath ji, the chariots of Balabhadra and Subhadra ji are also present in the yatra. The yatra starts from the temple of Puri and reaches gundicha temple. Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra ji and Subhadra ji stay in gundicha temple till Ashadh Shukla Dashami. After this, the three gods and goddesses return to their temple in Puri. The nearest airport to Puri in Odisha is in Bhubaneswar. Puri is about 60 km from here. It is believed that in the Dwapar yuga, Shri Krishna’s sister Subhadra ji expressed her desire to see Dwarka, so to fulfill the sister’s wish, Shri Krishna made Subhadra ji sit on his chariot and toured Dwarka. Due to this belief, the Rath Yatra of Jagannath Ji, Balabhadra and Subhadra Ji is taken out every year.
Lord Jagannath appeared in the dream of King Indradyumna
In ancient times, Indradyumna was a king of Puri. Once Lord Jagannath appeared in the king’s dream. God had told the king that there were big woods flowing in the sea near here. Make three of our statues from those woods.
The king woke up from sleep and immediately reached the place told by God, and large wood was found there. By the will of God, Vishwakarma ji reached the king as a carpenter. The king entrusted the carpenter with the task of making idols of God from wood.
Before I started work, the carpenter had put a condition that no one would come to my room until the idols were completed. The king agreed to the carpenter’s words. After this, the carpenter started making sculptures in a room.

Many days passed, but the carpenter did not open the door of his room. The queen of the state started thinking that it has been a long time, but the carpenter has not come out of his room. Thinking this, the Queen tried to peep inside the room. Immediately after this, the carpenter opened the door and said that you have broken my bet. The sculptures are still incomplete, but Now I can’t complete this work.
The king was immediately informed about the entire incident. The king was sad to hear these things, but the carpenter said that you should not be sad, all this has happened by God’s will.
After this incident, incomplete idols of Jagannath ji, Balabhadra ji and Subhadra ji were installed in the temple. Since then, such idols of God are being worshiped.
