In a recent interview, veteran Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who will captain the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, shared an intriguing personal story. Dhawan, who is well-known for his sense of humour on social media and stylish body art, revealed that as a young child, he went to Manali for an HIV test.
“I went to Manali when I was between 14 and 15 years old and got a tattoo on my back without telling my family. I had to keep it a secret for about three to four months, and when my father found out, he beat me. After getting the tattoo, I felt a little uneasy because I had no idea how many bodies the needle had pierced. I later took an HIV test, and it has so far come back negative (laughs) “said on the Aaj Tak programme “Seedhi Baat.”
According to the legend surrounding this incident, Dhawan’s family did not approve of him getting tattoos on his body, and his father even beat him after he got one. Then Dhawan explained that he had a fear of the needle that was used to create his tattoo, which prompted him to get tested for HIV but found to be negative.
In terms of cricket, Dhawan will captain the Punjab Kings alongside players such as Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, and many others. With a strong lineup, PBKS can undoubtedly win the championship this year.
