Every year on December 10, Human Rights Day is celebrated across the world in global terms . It’s the day when the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) were adopted by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948. This Day focuses on the fundamental rights that are globally entitled to people, simply by virtue of being humans.
It’s not only celebrates but also advocates for rights that cut across the distinctions of nationality, gender, race, religion, or any other status. This year brings the 74th anniversary of the adoption of the UDHR as well as the 72nd Human Rights Day. Arun Kumar Mishra is the Current executive of National Human Rights Commission.
Why this Day is celebrated globally?
The aim of celebrating this day is to make people aware of their rights. It also include the right to health, economic, social, and also education. These are fundamental natural rights which human beings cannot be deprived or oppressed on the basis of race, caste, nationality, religion, gender etc.
What is the theme of Human Rights Day 2022 ?
The world will mark the 75th anniversary of the UDHR on December 10, 2023. Ahead of this milestone celebration, in light of this upcoming milestone, a year-long campaign will be launched. This campaign will be launched on December 10 this year to showcase the UDHR, emphasising on its legacy, relevance, and activism. What is the History?
In 1950 After the UNGA passed resolution 423 (V), it was formally instituted. Under the resolution, the Assembly had invited all states and interested organisations also to celebrate the proclamation of the UDHR and exert increasing efforts in this field of human progress. It has taken up topics over the past decade. Such as, discrimination, diversity, education, freedom, poverty, torture, and equality.
What is the scope in India?
In India, The Human Rights Act came into force on 28 September 1993. The government constituted the National Human Rights Commission on October 12, 1993. It’s headquater in India is in New Delhi. Also, this works in political, economic, social and cultural fields. Like wages, HIV AIDS, health, child marriage, and women’s rights. The work of this Commission is to make more and more people aware.
