Here’s the list of top goalscorers for The Golden Boot award at Qatar 2022

The Golden Boot is a coveted award. This award is given to the top scorer at each edition of the FIFA World Cup. The award was officially instituted in the 1982 World Cup. Until the 2006 World Cup, the award was known as the Golden Shoe award. In this, the second and third highest scorers were also given a silver and bronze shoe, respectively.

Argentina’s Guillermo Stabile became the first footballer to be conferred with the trophy for scoring eight goals in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 1930. France’s Just Fontaine owes the record for the most number of goals scored in a FIFA World Cup. Just Fontaine scored 13 goals in the 1958 edition in Sweden.

No player has won the Golden Boot more than once. But, only Brazilians were the ones who hold the record for winning the award maximum number of times. This happens on six occasions.

For 1st position, Kylian Mbappe from France scored 5 against Australia (1), Denmark (2) and Poland (2).

For 2nd position, Lionel Messi from Argentina scored 4 against Saudi Arabia (1), Mexico (1), Australia (1), Netherlands (1). Olivier Giroud from France also scored 4 against Australia (2), Poland (1), England (1). While Enner Valencia from Ecuador scored 3 against Qatar (2), Netherlands (1).

For 3rd position, Cody Gakpo from Netherlands scored 3 against Senegal (1), Ecuador (1), Qatar (1). Marcus Rashford from England scored 3 against Iran (1), Wales (2). Alvaro Morata from Spain scored 3 against Costa Rica (1), Germany (1), Japan(1). Bukayo Saka from England scored 3 against Iran (2), Senegal (1). Richarlison from Brazil scored 3 against Serbia (2), South Korea (1). Goncalo Ramos from Portugal also scored 3 against Switzerland (3).
