Gujarat Giants Women v UP Warriorz: UP enter playoffs, knock Gujarat and RCB out.

The third and final team to do so, UP Warriorz (UPW), has advanced to the 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL) playoffs. Alyssa Healy’s squad defeated Gujarat Giants (GGT) in a nail-biting final over to advance to the next round. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was eliminated from the competition as a result of this victory.

The victory by UP Warriorz (UPW) over GGT was their fourth victory overall, giving them eight points overall. However, RCB only had one game left and had four points on the board, which prevented them from moving on because the maximum number of points they could have finished with is six. In their final league match, the RCB team under Smriti Mandhana faced the Mumbai Indians (MI).

The Delhi Capitals (DC), who play the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team later that evening, can tie MI for the table lead if they win.

Each of RCB’s first five games were losses, which was a poor start to their season. Even though they bounced back by defeating UPW and GGT in their most recent two games, it was too little, too late.

In RCB’s victory over GGT on Saturday, Sophie Devine registered the highest individual score of the competition with 99 runs in just 36 balls (March 18). However, RCB’s efforts were insufficient to get them into the postseason.

On Friday, the second and third teams will play an elimination game to kick off the playoffs (March 24). In the summit match on Sunday, the victor of the eliminator will compete against the league leaders (March 26).
