Bangladesh may host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches for the Pakistan cricket team instead of India, the competition’s initial host nation. Because to the harsh political relations between the two countries, this suggestion has been debated. No formal conversations have yet taken place, but the topic was explored during last week’s International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings.
For this year’s Asia Cup, a hybrid model is being considered as a remedy.
This year’s Asia Cup was initially hosted by Pakistan, but India will probably play its matches somewhere else. The concept emerged during a break at a board meeting in Dubai. Members from the two Boards discussed Pakistan’s participation in the 50-over World Cup and India’s participation in the Asia Cup.
The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) has given its approval in principle to a hybrid arrangement. That will allow Pakistan to host the Asia Cup while neutral locations will host India’s matches. These neutral sites have not yet been decided, but possible choices include the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Sri Lanka, or perhaps England. The India-Pakistan matches and, if India advances, the championship game, will all take place at neutral sites.
This hybrid design, put forth by the PCB in unofficial negotiations, might work for the World Cup as well. On October 5, the ODI World Cup is anticipated to begin. The PCB has repeatedly emphasised that their ability to compete in the event hinges on India’s ability to compete in the Asia Cup.
India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group as a qualifier team
India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group as a qualifier team for the six-nation Asia Cup, which will be played in a 50-over format in the first half of September this year. The other group includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. There will be a total of 13 games played over the course of 13 days, including the final. According to the 2022 Asia Cup format, the top two teams from each group advance to the Super Fours, where the top two teams play in the championship match.
