Avatar: The Way of Water Grossed $57.1 Million In China

Avatar: The Way of Water, a film by James Cameron, will be released on December 16, 2022. The expensive and highly anticipated sequel debuted below expectations. Grossing $134 million in the United States and Canada but performed well in other countries. Cameron’s film would need to be “the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history” to break even.
According to THR, Disney and 20th Century Fox’s Avatar 2 grossed $57.1 million in China over the weekend.
The increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Beijing and other major Chinese cities is affecting the film’s box office collections in China.
However, the film performed well in a number of other countries. Avatar: The Way of Water crossed ₹100-crore benchmark in the net collection in India on Sunday. Other top-five markets include South Korea ($24.7 million), France ($19.3 million), and Germany ($19.9 million), all of which saw their best openings since the pandemic began.
According to the distributor Walt Disney Co., Avatar 2 added $301 million in overseas markets, bringing the global total to around $435 million as of Sunday. The film was the tenth highest-grossing film of 2022, and it received positive reviews from critics, who praised its visual effects and technical achievement while criticising its thin narrative and lengthy runtime.

The film received nominations for Best Motion Picture
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ was named one of the top ten films of 2022 by several organisations, including the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.
Cameron claimed that the 2009 film’s massive box office earnings (over USD 2 billion), set on a fictional moon inhabited by a native tribe called Navi, gave him access to the people’s hearts and minds.
“The feedback from the world in all cultures was that we want more of this,” he said in a virtual group interview with the press. That’s what they said afterwards. It was far too brief. I didn’t want to leave, I wanted to stay there. As an artist, I already have access to people’s hearts and minds all over the world.”
Cameron also stated that he had to do a lot of soul-searching before making the sequel and subsequent sequels, which are already in various stages of production.
“I had to think about it for a few years before deciding to go ahead with it. It wasn’t a snap decision or a no-brainer.
